School Story

Washington Junior High School (WJHS) opened in 1980 and was originally known as Walton Junior High.  The mascot at that time was the Cubs. 

Walton Junior High became Washington Junior High in 2000 and adopted the current Wildcat mascot.

Washington Junior High has established a long tradition of excellence in all that we do- Academics, Activities, Arts, and Athletics.

WJHS is an internationally recognized Model PLC school.  Model PLC schools are some of the most high performing schools around the globe.

Operating with a collaborative professional learning community mindset allows us to fulfill our mission of Inspiring Excellence in all of our Wildcats.  

WJHS is a school where a positive, inspirational culture supports and challenges all community members to excel beyond what is measured on standardized tests.  At WJHS we strive to inspire students to attack authentic, rigorous challenges that they know to be important and thereby acquire the skills that will engage them to succeed in an increasingly innovative world and to help make the world a better place.
